McArdle Farmhouse

Project type:
Dwelling on a Farm
Approx. 2700 sqft
This compact family home uses traditional rural building forms and proportions with contemporary features and detailing to create a stylish yet respectful aesthetic to its rural setting and built context.

The beautiful site setting at the foot of the Mourne mountains in close proximity to Carlingford Lough informed the orientation and internal layout for the dwelling. The ground floor open plan living, dining, kitchen space and master bedroom at first floor level directly relate to the views of the Lough and maximise sunlight along the south facing facade. Large glazed openings to the main living spaces capture the views and enhance the sense of connection with the stunning and tranquil external surroundings.
